February's talk on Niki de Saint Phalle was lively, conversational and genuinely productive.
I'd prepared far more material than the hour could hold, so I had to abridge but that felt right for the room. Researching Niki de Saint Phalle's life and work was a joy, and the session drew out rich questions and comments throughout.

One early contribution from an attendee introduced me to something I hadn't encountered before: the Matilda Effect, the phenomenon by which women's contributions throughout history have been noted but their names have been quietly forgotten, particularly in fields like science. It was a perfect thread for the conversation we were having.
On the project side, things are moving. After the talk I caught the train to Newport Central Library to log books on the scanner, and discovered they hold a much larger art book collection off the main floor, available via the online catalogue. I'm arranging to log those next month. I've also now scanned most of Salisbury Library's collection, met with the librarian there, and last weekend made a start on Brighton Central, also known as the Jubilee Library.
The next talk is this Saturday, 28th March, 11am to 12pm, on the Mezzanine at Abergavenny Library.
This month I'll be talking about Faith Ringgold, the American painter, author and intersectional activist best known for her narrative quilts. Come with questions and an open mind. All are welcome.
