I have the chance to exhibit work in Hereford in March in an empty shop that has been taken over by Artlandish for three months.  I’m working in a group called IMPOSURE to bring our work together in a show, potentially with events alongside.  We even have a manifesto.

I have found the issue of female artist representation in the public realm has really caught my attention after using painting, dancing and writing as a way to expand my thought process. I could be wrong, the painting, dancing and writing may be doing something quite different! What I’m bringing together and making for March is a shelf with a selection of books I would be happy to find in a public library, an exemplar.  I’ll have 51 books on female, 49 about male and 18 about individual global majority artists, to be representative of the population at the last census in 2021. I am choosing artists from across the ages.

Two people heavily involved with Artlandish, Viv and Ant have been wonderful in helping me source shelves to hold these books. The backbone to my display.  I’ve chosen to use ex-museum Dexion as it is so flexible.  Some of the books in my selection will likely be real books from my own collection and the rest will be painted ‘placeholder’ books on artists I reckon should have books published on them and available in libraries.

After much deliberation, sleepless nights and possibly a few too many cups of coffee, I have nearly finalised my choice of 100 artists from various periods and begun to make the first cardboard 'placeholder' books.
